This is a wonderful website for kidding.  It displays
good pictures of normal kiddings and abnormal
kiddings.  It also gives you a good example of
a kidding kit.

Sannendoah Goat Information Page

This is an awesome site that's has an abundance of
information.  Has a good article on how to supplement
Colostrum, but has mostly general health
information.  A must see!

Kinne's Minis Pygmy Goats

This is a website by Maxienne Kinne who has wrote
many health related articles for the NPGA
Memo.  A great website to learn about nutrition,
goat health and great articles on kidding
including problem kiddings.

7M Farm and Herbals

If you want to try a more natural way of healing,
go to this site.  Has a wonderful array of products including a
mixture of herbs that may help your doe during labor.

Goat World

Has numerous articles on kidding and prenatal
care.  Also has a ton of general information.  Has a
great section on how to build no waste grain and hay feeders.

Pre and post kidding preparations.  This is based on
the dairy breed, not pygmies!



Kidding Kit

Here is a list of items to have on hand when your goats begin to kid.

  • Kid Puller - in case the doe is needing assistance.
  • Latex Gloves - use when doing an internal exam or if you don't want to touch the gooey stuff.
  • Blunt Tip Surgical Scissors - to cut the umbilical cord or sack.
  • Weak Kid Syringe - if you need to force feed for some reason.
  • 1cc syringes - to administer vaccinations to kids.
  • 3cc syringes
  • 1/2in. 22 gauge needles.
  • Dental Floss - to tie off umbilical cord.
  • Baking Soda
  • Nutri Drench - for stressful births
  • Electrolytes - to rehydrate the goats
  • 7% Iodine - to dry the umbilical cords
  • Film Container or teat dipper - to dip umbilical cords
  • Lubricant (OB Lube or J Lube) - in case you need to assist
  • Molasses - to put in warm water to encourage the does to drink
  • Alcohol - to steralize your tools
  • Penicillin G
  • Garbage Bags or feed bags - to put the afterbirth in
  • Clean Old Towels - to dry off the kids with
  • Surgical Scrub - to wash up in case you need to assist
  • Nasal Aspirator - to suck the fluids out of the kids mouth and nose
  • Flashlight - so you can find your way to the barn in the middle of the night
  • Baby bottles and nipples (primie nipples work the best for pygmies) - In case you need to bottle feed
  • Recipe for replacement pygmy goat milk
  • Clean bucket for warm water.
  • Your camera with new batteries and film - to capture those special moments
  • Notebook and a watch to record the time of birth, sex of kids, weight, etc.
  • Thermometer
  • Heat Lamp and bulb
  • Veterinarian's phone number
